ENAC’s Engineers (IENAC)

MULTI-SKILLED AERONAUTICAL EXPERTS
ENAC engineers can design, produce and operate air transport systems and services. These engineers require scientific and technical, economic, social and human knowledge. Our engineers primarily operate in the aerospace industry (designers and constructors of electronic and computerised systems for aerospace applications), in air transport (airlines, airports), for the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) and in many related sectors.

Two different qualifications can be obtained with this course: ENAC "civil" engineer (90% of students), and ENAC "civil servant" engineer, (10% of students). "Civil" students target the private sector, AIRBUS, Aéroports de Paris, Air France, EADS, Thales, etc. ENAC "Civil servant" engineers target state offices (Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile (French Civil Aviation Authority) and positions as Civil Aviation Design and Operations Engineers (IEEAC).

All ENAC engineering students follow the same course irrespective of their qualification.

Objectives

TRAINING IN THE REAL WORLD
The ENAC engineering course has a duration of three years and includes 900 hours of teaching per academic year, combining classroom teaching, supervised group work, industrial projects and initial research practice. During the course, student engineers acquire multi-disciplinary knowledge and skills in the aerospace sector, and more in-depth knowledge of one of the three specialisations proposed, plus general modules (languages, human and social sciences) and training in how companies work, including several work placements.

ENTRY

Year 1:
Common selective examinations for Polytechnics Most ENAC engineering students (including "civil" (90%) and "civil servant" (10%) students) gain entry via the selective polytechnic examinations (MP, PS, PSI and L2).
A few students (all "civil") from the Polytechnic preparatory cycles (CPP) at the national polytechnic institutes (INP) of Grenoble, Nancy and Toulouse, the advanced degree in Sciences and Technologies of the University of Poitiers and an internal selective examination of the Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile (French Civil Aviation Authority)(DGAC)(all "civil servants") also join the course in Year 1.

Year 2

A few students are accepted directly into Year 2 on the basis of qualifications, a scientific masters (M1) or 60 ECTS for a scientific master (M2)(all "civil").
All students study common modules during the first semester: mathematics, automatic control systems, IT, electronics, economics, English, aircraft, the aircraft environment, etc.

STRONG SPECIALISATIONS

From the second academic semester, modules are gradually specialised. At the end of the first semester, each student must state their preferred specialisation. A jury will then assign students based on academic interviews. The specialisations actually assigned to students will depend on the preferences of the student, the number of places available for each specialisation and possibly grades.

Aeronautical telecommunications:

Physics, component modelling, circuit analysis, electronic functions, microwaves, hyperfrequencies, radio communications, telecommunications, networks, industrial IT, operating systems IT, signal processing and transmissions, radio navigation, on board systems, etc.
 
IT and Air traffic:

Basic IT and electronics applied to the aerospace sector, IT development and production, human engineering, aerodynamics, air traffic, airworthiness, principles of flight, IT for large-scale systems, system reliability, Air Traffic Management, etc.
 

Aeronautical techniques:

Air transport economics, micro-economics, real time IT, human performance management, automatic control systems, aerodynamics, airworthiness, avionics, maintenance, air traffic, construction programme management, etc.
